Mission Statement
The Observatory Orchestra is a musical organization resident in the Griffith Park and Elysian Park areas of the City of Los Angeles.
As a performance ensemble, it is committed to adhering to the highest standards of musical execution in presenting an orchestral and chamber repertoire.
As a community orchestra, it is committed to providing cultural enrichment for the area, increasing community cohesion and raising its quality of life:
- by locating professional and capable amateur musicians who live in the communities and employing them, whenever possible, to play in the ensemble; that is, to deliver a local product using local talent
- by identifying composers who reside in the community and performing their works when possible
- by actively supporting and helping to improve music programs in local area schools
- by locating and recruiting talented local secondary school students to play in the orchestra
- by offering its services for community-related events.
Non-profit and tax-exempt status statement
The Observatory Orchestra is a non-profit organization as defined in Section 501[c](3) of the Internal Revenue Code and recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt under Section 501[a]. Articles of incorporation as a PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION are on file with the Secretary of State of California.
